That time of the month is never easy, but we believe there are ways to definitely make it easier. Flex Menstrual Discs are the newest edition to the period product space that promises to help women have easier periods.

After all, Flex guarantees that you will have the MOST comfortable period of your life.

Yes please, we are all for it! That is why we took the time to try Flex for a whole period cycle. We wanted to see if it can really take the place of tampons and live up to all the hype.

Let’s get into it!

What are Menstrual Discs?

Menstrual discs are different than most of the period products we see on the market today. That is because menstrual discs sit past the vaginal canal. While other products like tampons and menstrual cups clog the vaginal canal.

Flex Claims

While looking at Flex Claims, you can’t help but to notice how impressive the benefits are.

12-hour wear

You can wear Flex for up to 12 hours, so you no longer have to worry about changing your tampon multiple times throughout the day.

You know, it has happened to all of us, that dreaded moment when you forgot to bring tampons with you?

Disposable

A menstrual disc isn’t like a menstrual cup. Flex was meant to used only one time.

Reduces cramps

There are many different opinions around this. Flex claims that because of the materials they use, you can experience reduced cramping and bloating. However, doctors say that cramping has to do more with prostaglandins being released than the materials you put inside your vagina.

We are guessing the only way to really find out is to put it to the test.

Mess free period sex

You can’t really have sex with a tampon since it is clogging the vagina. And you can’t really have sex with a pad because well, it’s a bit of a mess (unless you are like Ali Wong and are totally into that). With Flex, because of where it sits you can still have sex with it inside and not have to worry.

Not linked to TSS

Toxic shock syndrome is a disease caused by bacteria. Some tampons can cause this to happen because of the materials that are used to produce them. Although it is a rare disease, it can happen to anyone and it is always best to take precautions whenever you can.

How does it work?

At first glance, you’re probably like “How the hell does this work?” Which was our exact reaction too! It does look a bit large, but once you squeeze it closed, it makes more sense. It turns out to be the size of a tampon, and even smaller than a menstrual cup.

When it comes to using Flex for the first time, you may want to start on a lighter day because it may get messy. Plus, you want to make sure you enter it in correctly before going out in public.

We found it easier to squeeze the middle part the most, and then glide your hand back as you enter it in further into your vagina.

Once the whole thing is inside of you, you need to push the Flex up – towards your belly. That way it locks in and stays secure behind the pubic bone.

TIP: you may want to use your middle finger during this process to really make sure it is secure.

You will probably question if you put it in right, but it is more than likely that you did! Just to be sure, you will want to really tuck it behind the pubic bone. Take a few moments to get a feel of what is happening in there.

Train mess-free with Gynie while using Flex?

Unfortunately, no because when you squeeze your PC muscle the menstrual disc moves. This makes some of the blood from the disc empty.

You will notice when you go to the bathroom to pee or poop, that you will see a toilet full of blood (depending on your flow). That is because your PC muscle engaged and moved the disc around a bit causing some blood to come out.

You don’t have to worry, it should remain secure afterwards.

Although you can train with Gynie while you are on your period, you can also swap out your training for a yoga or Pilates class.

Flex vs Softcup? Is there a difference?

Flex isn’t the only menstrual disc on the market! There is also SoftCup, which is a product on the shelves at your local convenience stores.

Softcup is now actually owned by Flex. It looks the same and feels the same.

The only difference is Flex is black and Softcup is a baby pink.  Oh, and the hefty price difference!

Flex is $20

Softcup is $10.99

That is a major price difference for products being pretty much identical.

On their website they claim that Softdisc doesn’t come with the Comfort Seal technology that prevents leakage. Additionally, that it isn’t available for automatic delivery or customizable quantity sizes. Which to us wasn’t the biggest deal. You can still buy Softcup online at Amazon.

Final Thoughts

The worst thing about tampons is that it smells after a while and literally absorbs everything! It is completely different with menstrual discs. There is no smell and it collects – not absorbs.

Most importantly, you can say goodbye to missing a week without sex and hello to periods with more ease! We definitely loved using Flex during our periods this month. Most of us are going to continue using menstrual discs for the future on our medium to lighter days.

On our heavy days we had the constant feel that we were going to leak. It may be because it was our first couple times using the product. It’s possible those feelings will change with more practice.

When it comes to price, Flex is costly. We found that Softcup worked just as well and is convenient to pick up on your next trip to Target. So, if you are looking for the same results with a great price definitely go with Softcup.

By now you can probably tell that having mess-free period sex was our favorite feature, but that is mainly because having orgasms during your period is a great way relieve cramps.

Come on, you know what we mean!

At Gynie, we believe in helping women live healthier lives and feel more sexually confident. Menstrual discs are a step closer to helping the environment by creating less waste and they help you by not exposing you to TSS. Not to forget, you can connect with your partner without feeling self-conscious.

Give it a try and see how they work for you!
