Nothing kicks off the summer like celebrating LA Pride! The streets of West Hollywood are flooded with an abundance of love for all sexes, races, and identities. Considering how much progress we have made as a country when it comes to people feeling more open to identifying as who they choose – we have tons to be grateful for. Now more than ever before people all over the world are becoming educated on sexual identity and building acceptance for ALL people. Although many are aware of the LGBT community, we wanted to take it a step further and introduce you to some definitions that all people should be aware of.
At Gynie, we want to empower all people to feel strong, worthy, and confident in themselves and who they are. This is why we choose to recognize the LGBT+ community as LGBTQQIP2SAA. We choose to not let anyone feel unknown because we know that with unity there is
We thank you for taking the time to learn about the LGBTQQIP2SAA community during this special time of year. We would like to mention that all the following definitions are in the most simplistic form, and of course mean different things to different people. We encourage you to do your own research and reach out to people in your community to start this conversation.
L: Lesbian – A women who is emotionally or physically attracted to other women.
G: Gay – A person who is emotionally or physically attracted to ones own gender.
B: Bisexual – A person who is emotionally or physically attracted to both male and female.
T: Transgender – A person who has a gender identity that is different from their sex at birth.
Q: Questioning- A person who is exploring their sexuality and/or gender identity.
Q: Queer- Can mean different things to different people. Today, it can be a positive word to describe anyone who isn’t straight and apart of the LGBTQQIP2SAA community.
I: Intersex – A person whose body isn’t completely male or female.
P: Pansexual – A person who is emotionally or physically attracted to all people.
2S: Two-Spirit – A person who has both feminine and masculine spirits. This is usually used by First Nations as a tradition.
A: Androgynous – A person who has both male and female characteristics.
A: Asexual – A person who lacks sexual feelings or desires towards others.
